North of Laneview, Virginia, on Highway 17, there is a Hamlet still known as Montague.  A couple signs indicate the spot of an old post office and store.  The buildings were removed when the highway was widened a number of years ago.  The Montague name is very well known in the area.  A Governor Andrew Jackson Montague came from this area in the 1800’s and, of course, emigrant Peter Montague came to Virginia in 1621.

We visited with Bill Tallaferro, President of Montague Farms, and his wife in their southern style home.   Bill’s grandparents bought the farm about 1900.  Today they operate quite a large farm that extends over a 200 mile radius.  Bill remembers going to the Montague Store in his younger days.
