Richard Aga Montague 1898 - 1982

Richard (my father), son of Chester , was born in Oconto , Wisconsin .  As a teenager, in 1914, he moved to California with his family.  Richard attended Stanford University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry.  He was also a commissioned Officer in the US Army specializing in chemical warfare.  Richard earned a degree in Chemical Engineering one year later.  His life’s career was with the Standard Oil Company of California working at several plants in southern California .  He was a gas and testing engineer for the Gas and Natural Gas Department.  Richard married Joyce Mary, the daughter of George Pinkerton of Oakland , CA .  The young couple moved to southern California after their wedding.  They were both very active in the different communities where they resided, particularly the Methodist Churches.  Richard was the President of the Whittier Men’s University Club and sponsored Richard Nixon’s membership, after he had returned from World War II.  Richard and Joyce retired to Rancho Bernardo, CA, in 1962.  Due to failing health, in 1981, they relocated to Paso Robles, CA to be with their son, Dick.  Richard died in 1982, and Joyce followed in 1984.  They both were cremated and their ashes were scattered at sea near Morro Bay , CA .  They had two children, Richard J. (Dick) being the younger.
