Richard
Aga Montague 1898 - 1982
Richard (my father), son of Chester , was
born in Oconto , Wisconsin . As a teenager, in 1914, he moved to
California with his family. Richard attended Stanford University and
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. He was also a
commissioned Officer in the US Army specializing in chemical
warfare. Richard earned a degree in Chemical Engineering one year
later. His life’s career was with the Standard Oil Company of
California working at several plants in southern California . He was
a gas and testing engineer for the Gas and Natural Gas Department.
Richard married Joyce Mary, the daughter of George Pinkerton of Oakland ,
CA . The young couple moved to southern California after their
wedding. They were both very active in the different communities
where they resided, particularly the Methodist Churches. Richard was
the President of the Whittier Men’s University Club and sponsored
Richard Nixon’s membership, after he had returned from World War
II. Richard and Joyce retired to Rancho Bernardo, CA, in 1962.
Due to failing health, in 1981, they relocated to Paso Robles, CA to be
with their son, Dick. Richard died in 1982, and Joyce followed in
1984. They both were cremated and their ashes were scattered at sea
near Morro Bay , CA . They had two children, Richard J. (Dick) being
the younger.
