Artillery officer in India.
Royal Academy of Woolwich; East India cadet in Bengal, 1770; lieutenant fire-worker of Bengal artillery, 1772; first-lieutenant of artillery, 1777; Mahratta campaign, 1781; severely wounded in the face by an arrow; fought against Hyder Ali and French allies in the Carnatic, 1782; commanded artillery in unsuccessful siege of Cuddalore (held by the French), 1783; Captain, 1784; prominent part in Lord Cornwallis's invasion of Mysore, 1791; in charge of artillery at successful sieges of Nandidrug, and Savandrug, 1791;
Lieutenant-colonel, 1794; commanded the artillery during the last war against the sultan of Mysore (Tippoo), 1799; died from from a shrapnel wound in the shoulder, 1799.
