Duke of Montagu, fourth Earl of Cardigan. Governor to Prince of Wales; Captain of Windsor Castle.
Married Lady Mary Montagu, 1730; adopted the name of Montagu on death of last male heir to duke of Montagu (his father-in-law), 1749; first person ever to be knighted in absentia while at sea, 1762; Governor to the Prince of Wales, 1776; Captain of Windsor Castle, privy councilor, president of the London Hospital, president of the Society of Arts.
Lacking a male heir, his will directed that after he died his servants should live in his house and be paid full wages as long as they lived.
